What is Internet Information Server (IIS)?

Internet Information Server (IIS) is a cluster of several Internet services for servers. IIS supports World Wide Web, FTP and Gopher.

IIS runs on Windows platform only. IIS is published by Microsoft and highly integrated with operating system. Main competitors of Microsoft in this area are Apache, Sun Microsystems and others. About 20% of the web servers in the world runs IIS.
